The Bartered Banana
Ideal for pre-K through 5th grade students. Available at any time, for free.
Sponsored by the Arts Council OKC and Allied Arts, The Bartered Banana is presented by Painted Sky Opera as a part of our educational programming. It is part of the Neighborhood Arts Performance Tour and can be experienced at local libraries and venues throughout the Metro in July and can travel to any school or library starting in September.
OPERA 101
Customizable for students of all ages! Available at any time, for free.
An introduction to operatic singing and style for first time listeners. This program engages audiences with opera on an emotional level, allowing listeners the opportunity to express how the music made them feel. It also involves an audience participation activity that brings the students into the performance and teaches listeners about two operatic storytelling styles—aria and recitative.
Science of Singing
Ideal for students of all ages. Available at any time, for free.
This presentation reveals the physics and anatomy of operatic singing. Opera singers are unique among musicians because the instrument we play is a part of our bodies! With this unique curriculum, students get the chance to learn about how opera singers produce such loud and varied sounds to make beautiful music. This presentation involves a video stroboscopy of an actual opera singer’s vocal folds during phonation, a discussion of the Bernoulli effect and its involvement in singing, and an audience led leaf blower orchestra with giant vocal folds!
Masterclass with Dr. DeMaio

Painted Sky Opera offers masterclasses with the world-renowned opera singer, experienced clinician and teacher, and published author, Dr. Barbara Fox DeMaio.

Painted Sky Opera engaged in extended education activities at VISTA Alternative School during Spring 2023 where they worked with students to increase their creativity through projects related to opera.
