The Magic Flute Goes West

This fun adventure sets Mozart’s The Magic Flute in the Wild West as Tam and cowpoke Pop Mageno are on a quest to retrieve a stolen flute from the supposed thief: Pam, the daughter of the local ranch owner! The Magic Flute Goes West is presented by Painted Sky Opera as a part of our educational programming through the end of the 2025-26 school year. It can travel to any school, library, or other venue. Sponsored by the Arts Council OKC and Metropolitan Library System.
OPERA 101
Customizable for students of all ages! Available at any time, for free.
An introduction to operatic singing and style for first time listeners. This program engages audiences with opera on an emotional level, allowing listeners the opportunity to express how the music made them feel. It also involves an audience participation activity that brings the students into the performance and teaches listeners about two operatic storytelling styles—aria and recitative.
Science of Singing
Ideal for students of all ages. Available at any time, for free.
This presentation reveals the physics and anatomy of operatic singing. Opera singers are unique among musicians because the instrument we play is a part of our bodies! With this unique curriculum, students get the chance to learn about how opera singers produce such loud and varied sounds to make beautiful music. This presentation involves a video stroboscopy of an actual opera singer’s vocal folds during phonation, a discussion of the Bernoulli effect and its involvement in singing, and an audience led leaf blower orchestra with giant vocal folds!

Painted Sky Opera offers masterclasses with the world-renowned opera singer, experienced clinician and teacher, published author, and one of our co-founders Dr. Barbara Fox DeMaio. Perfect for a church choir, a high school, or any community of passionate singers.
