For those who missed our production of Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti at the Civic Center in Oklahoma City, here’s another chance to catch our production but this time with full orchestra!
Painted Sky Opera and Enid Symphony are teaming up to bring you two of the great one-act American operas from the 20th century: Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti and Menotti’s The Telephone.
Sam and Dinah may appear to be the picture of 1950s suburban marital bliss in this jazz-influenced opera by the composer of West Side Story, but looks don’t always reveal the whole truth. This poignant tale of the pitfalls of American marriage follows a young couple as they try to revive their sagging relationship. Featuring a vivid score and darkly funny text, Trouble in Tahiti is as thought-provoking as it is entertaining.
Also accompanying Trouble in Tahiti is Gian Carlo Menotti’s hilarious opera The Telephone in which true love is repeatedly thwarted by the interference of everyone’s favorite communication device: the telephone. This is a rare chance to hear this bubbly and fun opera performed with orchestra!
